Vivianne Miedema has been nominated for the women’s Ballon d’Or award. Miedema, 23, joins nineteen other players in being shortlisted for the award, including fellow strikers Alex Morgan, Ellen White, Pernille Harder, and Sam Kerr. Miedema scored 31 goals in all competitions last season, as Arsenal Women won the FA WSL, and reached the final in the FA WSL Continental Cup.
Playing for the Netherlands, Miedema scored two goals in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as her side reached the final, before losing 2-0 to the USA. With her goal against Cameroon, Miedema became the top scorer for the Netherlands’ national team, with 60 goals, passing Manon Melis, and the men’s record set by Robin van Persie.
Miedema has scored eight goals this season, with one in the FA WSL, and seven in three games in the Champions League, including four in last week’s first leg victory against Sparta Praha.
