The treatment of Mesut Ozil by Unai Emery has become a talking point for fans and the media alike. The German playmaker has made just two appearances so far this season and was not even included in the last three match day squads.
It’s still not clear exactly where the disconnect is. However, we’ve all seen the stories that Emery doesn’t think Ozil trains hard enough and believes that other players deserve to be on the pitch over him. Whatever the rift is between Emery and Ozil, the fact remains that he is one of the best players at the club. If Emery is trying to prove a point and exert his authority, it appears to be backfiring. The fact that he is being shunned by the manager has angered some of the fan base.
For example; as this ongoing Mesut Ozil saga continues, Arsenal sent out birthday wishes to the German via Twitter. The response may not have been what the club was expecting.
Happy birthday, @MesutOzil1088! pic.twitter.com/aCdpuuR5p8

Here’s a sampling of just some of the replies from fans in support of Ozil:
Play the man. Never has a fan favourite been treated so poorly

Either way, happy birthday Mesut ❤️
Gotta admit. Bit surprised. Not sure you’ve trained hard enough for a birthday.

I’m not sure who manages the Arsenal Twitter account, but hopefully the feedback from fans will be passed along to the powers that be at the club. The fact is that Ozil is currently Arsenal’s most creative player. In 167 appearances for the club he has scored 32 goals and contributed 52 assists. He doesn’t deserve the poor treatment he is currently receiving.
