It would be wrong for me to open CF with anything other than Simone Biles and Brigid Kosgei. Over the weekend, Biles became the most decorated gymnast, male or female, in history, winning her 24th and 25th world medals. She does things that no other gymnast can do, and she makes them look easy. Brigid Kosgei finished the Chicago Marathon in a blistering 2:14:04, shaving 81 seconds off the world record. Eliud Kipchoge runs world-first sub-two-hour marathon
But the feat is not considered a world record because it was run on a closed course under conditions designed to break the two-hour mark — specifically chosen course, elite-level runners as pace-setters breaking the wind, constant access to his favorite carb-rich drink, etc. Many in the competitive marathoning community have decried the event as a publicity stunt, but slice it however you want, the guy ran 26.2 miles at a sub 4:34 minute mile pace. That’s ridiculous.
