This match marks the second time that Arsenal have played Blackpool this year—the first was in the Carabao Cup, a game that Arsenal won 2-1—and the end of the Gunners’ crazy festive schedule. We’ll be back to one league game per week, on average, after today.
To take home the silverware—and this one would be a record 14th FA Cup for the club—Arsenal need to beat six opponents, starting with Blackpool. The earlier match between Arsenal and Blackpool featured mainly junior players and second-stringers, but Unai Emery plans to field a stronger side this time. Having bounced back from their defeat at Liverpool with a 4-1 drubbing of Fulham, a win against their Championship opponents would be the perfect way to stay on a roll.
Blackpool, meanwhile, sit in the middle of their league table and are on a run of four games without a win.
