Arsenal Injury News: Sokratis available for Watford tilt

The back line gets a boost ahead of a tricky fixture

Defense has been the main worry this season, with Arsenal only picking up one clean sheet so far this season and looking particularly vulnerable against prolific sides. So it is a big relief to see probably their best defender so far this season, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, isn’t going to be held out any longer.

Confirmed in Unai Emery’s pregame butcher’s bill, Sokratis would be available after leaving Sunday’s game against Everton with a dead leg. Watford are currently flying high in fourth place so it’d be a mistake to take them lightly. Sokratis is a definite boost to Arsenal’s chances. Whether he’ll line up with Shkodran Mustafi as usual or Emery saw anything in Rob Holding, remains to be seen but one would suspect it’ll be the usual pairing for as long as possible.

Which will continue as Laurent Koscielny is still out. Not surprising, despite being repaired, he is only working out. Arsenal’s captain is expected to return to full training in November.

Emile Smith Rowe apparently came off the Brentford game a bit sore and is being monitored. Emery dictated that it is his right hip and he’ll be reassessed ahead of Watford. Although, it was always unlikely he’d start.

Youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Dinos Marvopanos both remain out but expected to return to training in October.
