The summer transfer window closes next week for all Premier League clubs. This should make for an interesting period of rumors, potential moves and last-minute deals.

Unai Emery has made several signings this summer and it appeared that the Gunners were done doing business. That is until news of a potential move for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida began making the rounds this weekend.

Vida anchored the Croatian defense during the Balkan country’s run to the World Cup final in Russia. Initial reports were that Liverpool had expressed interest in the player, but have had two offers rejected.

The latest information states that Arsenal are preparing a £25m move for the player. There is one stipulation, however. The board will not authorize the funds for Vida unless the Gunners are able to move either Danny Welbeck or Shkodran Mustafi.

Mustafi was less than convincing last season and has yet to impress new boss Emery. It’s been no secret that Arsenal are open to letting the German leave should a suitable offer come in.

Welbeck returned to North London after spending the entire World Cup as an unused sub for England. The striker has endured an up and down tenure with Arsenal. He’s been in and out of the squad through injuries and has struggled for first team action. It would probably be in Welbeck’s best interest to move on in order to get more playing time.

Should Arsenal be able to sign Vida and bring in another established defender it would be a move widely accepted by the club’s supporters.

Arsenal have less than a week to get this one done. Stay tuned.
