It’s easy to forget Alex Iwobi is only 22-years-old when he’s been at the club since the age of nine. A long time for any player. Now, his stay is guaranteed to be a while longer.
Really Pleased To Extend My Contract & Commit My Future To This Special Club. From Under 6 To BIG17 So Many People Have Helped Me. Thank You. Grateful To Our New Manager For The Faith Shown In Me & Our Fans For The Love, Support & Patience. Excited For 18/19 ❤️ #Gunners pic.twitter.com/CUaEbpEv2B— Alexander Iwobi (@alexiwobi) August 3, 2018
Gaining increasing time with the club, the last few years have been a bit of an up and down experience for BIG17. Still, with 45 appearances, Iwobi amassed 5 goals and 7 assists, which is nothing to sneeze at. With a new and crowded attack, it may be hard for him to find a lot of time as a starter, yet there’s no reason to feel his future is to remain on the bench. It’s a long season and Iwobi will clearly look to make a big impression on Unai Emery to justify this new contract.
Arsenal’s standards are very high so I’ve always tried to reach that. Arsenal have always been one of the best clubs in the world, so to even be a part of the club from a young age I’ve always had to give my best, show why I’m here and prove myself. Arsenal has always been like that.
As a kid, even when I was going to school, to say I played for Arsenal was an honour. To actually wear the Arsenal shirt and walk out at Emirates Stadium and see all the fans is an amazing feeling. The very first kit that I had was an Arsenal shirt, and I’m still as honoured and proud to wear the shirt today. I can’t wait for that to continue.
Looks like we might have a new Mr Arsenal and, with luck, will have for a long time.
