Arsenal vs. Manchester City lineups, TV info, match discussion: Time to see what we’ve got

Welcome to the 2018/19 season!

It’s opening day of Arsenal’s season! If I were a baseball writer, I would be using this space to dust off all my hoary old cliches about how the start of the baseball season is a renewal of ritual as old as my grandpappy, on whose knee I used to listen to games on the radio when I was a little nipper, all the while connecting baseball to the experience of being a human in a way that really doesn’t make a lot of sense but that might get me a Nobel prize or something.

I’d also be listening to Jason Isbell.

But it’s soccer opening day, not baseball opening day, so none of that is happening. Instead, I’m watching other Premier League games and waiting excitedly for today’s kickoff, despite the fact that this game has all the hallmarks of a beating - new coach, new setup, and oh yeah, the opponent is the most dominant team in two decades.

Yay sports!

Anyway, I’m hoping that Unai Emery’s era gets off to a good start and that, even if Arsenal don’t win, we start seeing exactly what will differentiate Emery from Wenger as Arsenal move into this next phase of their existence.

NOTE: With a new year comes a lot of new readers. Welcome! We’re thrilled you’re here and hope you’ll join us in the comments a lot, both on game days and other days. What you may or may not know is that one of SBN’s rules is that we cannot talk about or post links to illegal streams, in posts or in the comments. I understand streams exist, I’m fine with them existing, and I’m not saying this as a moral stance, but as a practical one: Please don’t break our rules. Thanks!
