Matteo Guendouzi, a 19 year-old midfielder for FC Lorient, is on the verge of signing for Arsenal in a rumored £7 million transfer, with a few reports suggesting it could happen as early as Monday of this week. The French U19 international has been tracked in the past by Manchester City and Tottenham, but it is the Gunners who look to capture his signature.
Guendouzi, it’s said, has played as a box-to-box midfielder in the past, but primarily featured in a holding midfield role this past season for the Ligue 2 club. Though young, he had 21 appearances and looks to be an interesting prospect for future teams.
He has been linked with a move to English football before, being rumoured to have interest from Tottenham in January and Arsenal, still keen to add midfielders (Unai Emery might have a problem), has been said to be looking for future options to bolster their midfield. Having failed to lure Yacin Adli from PSG, Guendouzi appears to be the back up plan.
More to follow in what will either be a quick bit of business or a lot more talk.
