Yesterday was set up to be a kind of boring day in the knockouts, then Belgium put on a quick masterclass in how to break an entire nation’s heart. No extra time or penalties yesterday, following two games featuring all that extraness the day before, so of course today will probably feature extras and pens again.
Which might not bode well for England, who historically doesn’t do well in the whole World Cup penalties thing; but who knows, this could be their year. They’ll be hoping to avoid penalties against David Ospina and Colombia today, after Sweden and Switzerland (feat. Granit Xhaka/Stephan Lichtsteiner) determine that quarterfinal’s first opponent earlier in the morning. Enjoy the games!
