Report: Alex Iwobi to extend contract until 2022

Alex Iwobi is set to sign a contract extension, with improved wages that will see him stay with the club through 2022 according to a report from the Mirror.

The 22 year old made 22 appearances in the league last season adding 3 goals and 5 assists. With a crowded depth chart of attacking players Iwobi will need to impress new manager Unai Emery to be able to get more minutes this season.

The academy graduate’s current deal runs through 2020 and is approaching the crucial stage where a sale or an extension is pivotal for long term planning.

Getting contracts extended before the reach the final year has appeared to be a re-newed focus for Arsenal after the drama of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil last season. Arsenal have extended Granit Xhaka, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles this season.

They still have the futures of Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck to figure out with one year left on their deals.
