Half of the World Cup final is set, with France dismissing Belgium yesterday, and today we find out who their opponent is, as England take on Croatia.
Croatia, of course, are coming off two consecutive knockout round games that went to extra time and penalties, so while they’re probably not running on fumes, they’re definitely at a bit of a disadvantage against an England team that hasn’t really broken out at more than a canter yet. This is not a criticism - it’s just an acknowledgment that England, so far, haven’t really had to get out of second gear to get where they are.
If this game stays scoreless or tied deep into the second half, England probably have a bit of an advantage, because they’ll have that extra gear to move into that Croatia may struggle to match. Either way, it should be a fun game, and it’s the next to last game of the tournament (be real, nobody cares about the third place game), so enjoy!
