Mesut’s old number was not vacant for long...

The Shirt Fuse carousel of squad number changes continued today with the arrival of Lucas Torreira. Mesut Özil ushered the Jack Wilshere #10 era out the door after it never really got started during the six years he held the coveted shirt. Özil’s disposal of #11 and Leno’s erroneous choice of #19 yesterday led us all to believe Torreira would inherit the #11 shirt. So this week alone, Jack Wilshere has left the club and both of his squad numbers have been filled in less than a new week, Unai Emery continues to erase any memory of the Englishman. Torreira now joins the likes of Mesut Özil, Andre Santos, Carlos Vela, Robin van Persie, and Marc Overmars among others to wear #11. Although not the traditional number for a defensive midfielder, it is an understandable choice of number due to availability. Torreira has previously shown a preference for #34 at his club and #14 for country. #3 is now the lowest available squad number left at the Arsenal.
