World Cup day nine: Time, TV schedule, how to watch

The tournament rolls on, with Croatia cementing their place in the last 16 yesterday and today seeing Iceland with a great chance to take huge strides towards advancing to the knockouts from group D this morning. If they win, that puts them on four points, which is the maximum that Argentina can earn, so today for Iceland will be all about piling on the pressure and scoring as much as they can in order to pad their lead over Argentina.

They currently hold the GD tiebreaker by three goals, so as long as that holds, Iceland will go through; a couple goals against Nigeria would make them feel a lot better about their chances but the way Argentina’s playing, that three goal cushion may be enough.

Over in group E, wins by Serbia and Brazil over Switzerland and Costa Rica will see both those teams into the last 16, with the match between those two on the 27th serving as the first place decider.

One of the fun things about this World Cup so far is that in several groups, the third game actually means something; while players will definitely not want to get hurt, the fact that first place in the group is on the line will mean that they’ll take the last games more seriously than if everything were settled.
