I sat for a solid half hour while putting this match thread together with the first paragraph just reading “opening section” because I had no idea what to say. There are no words, I think, that will really do this game justice. It doesn’t much matter who Arsenal are playing or what they have to play for from a sporting perspective—they have Arsène Wenger to play for, and they’ll be looking for one more win for their legendary manager.
For those of you looking for a bit of normalcy, here’s some team news. Arsenal have four injured players: Laurent Koscielny, who will be out for at least six months with a torn Achilles tendon, Santi Cazorla, who won’t be back this season, Mesut Özil, who is being careful with his back before the World Cup, and Mohamed Elneny, with an ankle problem. Huddersfield have two ankle problems of their own, for Elias Kachunga and Danny Williams, and Michael Hefele is out with a knee injury.
In terms of the Premier League table, this game doesn’t matter at all—Arsenal will finish sixth no matter what they do, and Huddersfield Town are much farther down but safe from relegation. But it’s Arsène’s last as manager, and however it ends, I think I might need a couple tissues. Thanks for everything, boss; now let’s do this one more time.
