Despite a largely dismal 2017-2018 season for the Gunners, they received a bit of good news as 22-year old defender Rob Holding has agreed to terms on a long-term contract with Arsenal.
Acquired from Bolton Wanderers two seasons ago, Holding has appeared in 42 first-team matches for the Gunners, including a memorable FA Cup final last season where he set up a nice B&B in Diego Costa’s head en route to helping the Gunners dispatch the Blues for a record 13th FA Cup title.
While details of the contract have not been divulged, this news is promising for a team whose defensive efforts have been among some of the worst in the Premier League this season. Holding has seen his influence and playing time increase as defensive stalwarts Skhodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny have become increasingly inept as the season has progressed.
Alongside fellow young defenders Calum Chambers and Konstantinos Mavropanos, Holding represents a dedication to the future of the club by the management, and his efforts over the last two seasons have given the Arsenal faithful reason to be hopeful.
