The real victory was making Troy Deeney look foolish.

Today’s 3-0 win over Watford was a game of milestones for Arsenal. Shkodran Mustafi scored Arsenal’s 1000th home Premier League goal. Mesut Özil became the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League assists. Petr Čech recorded his 200th Premier League clean sheet and saved his first penalty for Arsenal to boot.

The penalty save came at a critical moment. Arsenal had just gone up 2-0, and Watford had a chance to strike back and make a game of it. But Čech got down quickly to his right to block Troy Deeney’s rather poorly taken attempt. That it was Troy Deeney who had his penalty saved, he of the not-so-flattering post-match comments about Arsenal earlier this season, made it even sweeter.

The Gunners put in strong performances all around today. Mesut Özil was involved early on, creating chances and conducting the attack. Mohamed Elneny’s passing was fantastic - the Egyptian made several incisive passes to start attacking moves. Shkodran Mustafi had a great game as well, matching Deeney’s physicality and getting the better of the striker at every turn. And we finally got a glimpse of the Mkhitaryan-Aubameyang connection. The two linked up on the 2nd and 3rd goals, first Mkhi to PEA and then the other way around.

Arsenal have won 2 in a row. Let’s hope they’ve turned the corner on their run of poor form and close out the season strong. The Gunners are next in action on Thursday against A.C. Milan in the return leg of their Europa League tie. The Gunners hold a 2-0 lead on aggregate.
