Petr Cech’s injury during last weekend’s 5-1 victory over Everton will force second-string keeper David Ospina back into the starting lineup this Saturday when Arsenal travel to Wembley to take on Tottenham.
Few specifics have been offered as to the nature of Cech’s injury, and at present time it’s unknown how long he will be sidelined with this knock. Ospina, normally Arsenal’s cup competition keeper, will be making his first league start since last April’s 2-2 draw versus Manchester City.
While Cech hasn’t exactly been the sort of keeper normally expected and found within regular top-4 clubs, he also offers physical and mental attributes that inherently put him on a different, higher level than Ospina. The Colombian keeper is apt at making heroic saves with his 5-foot 11-inch frame, yet can be found crowded out and disoriented during crucial moments of a match.
If Arsenal are to win this weekend, it’s looking increasingly as though they’ll accomplish that in spite of their starting keeper. However, as we’ve seen throughout this season, this has been the case no matter who is wearing the gloves.
