Fresh off becoming Arsenal’s club-record signing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s debut for the club is in serious jeopardy of being delayed another week, as manager Arsene Wenger revealed earlier today that the forward is suffering from an unspecified illness resulting in a fever:
“He had sickness, a fever,” Wenger said. “He couldn’t train a lot – he started on Thursday. He was still not completely well so I have to assess and see with the medical department how well and how fit he can be.”
As you’ll recall, Jack Wilshere missed this past Tuesday’s debacle at Swansea City with an unspecified illness, and now Aubameyang’s contracted something that puts his availability versus Everton tomorrow in question. If Aubameyang’s unfit to play tomorrow, that puts him on track to make his debut next Saturday in the North London Derby, away at Tottenham.
Ideally, of course, it’s better to get him ingrained within his teammates on the pitch sooner than later, and thus would be a very difficult situation for him to make his first appearance at Wembley versus Spurs. So here’s to hoping Arsenal has those good drugs.
