Sports are fun. They’re an escape from the real world, and they’re a place where reality takes a break and you can celebrate the exceedingly impressive feats of people you can’t even imagine relating to as a normal human being.
And then, occasionally, reality intrudes, as it did today in the North London derby. In a game that ended 4-2 to the home team, one of the people that came to the Emirates to support Spurs came with an extra piece of fruit. That person, stupidly, decided to throw the skin of said fruit at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, for the offense of, apparently, being an Arsenal player. In the year 2018, that’s pretty embarrassing - there’s a lot of reasons to hate a player, I guess, but the color of their skin is a very 1970’s-ish reason to be an asshole.
The good thing is, that “supporter” was identified, and will probably be banned, but still, it’s not a great look to be doing something that wasn’t particularly progressive 20 or 30 years ago, much less now. Hopefully that “fan” will be banned and not seen around a Premier League stadium any time soon.
