At the time of the third round draw, there were still a couple second round ties headed to a replay, including the one that would determine Arsenal’s opponent. The first leg between Blackpool and Solihull Moors ended scoreless, so a replay was scheduled for today.
And at the end of today, Blackpool are the team that move on to face Arsenal on January 5th, after having Solihull hold them scoreless again and take them deep into extra time before being whistled for a controversial penalty, for a dangerous kick by Solihull’s Jamey Osborne into the body of Armand Gnanduillet in the 105th minute. Blackpool’s Adi Yussuf converted the spot kick, Blackpool saw out the remaining 15 minutes of the match, and now they’ll host Arsenal in just over two weeks’ time.
While League One isn’t as Magic Of The Cup as a National League side, it’ll still be fun for everyone to have Arsenal head up to Blackpool for a day out. Maybe they’ll go to the top of Blackpool Tower; unfortunately, Blackpool Pleasure Beach appears to be closed for the season, but I’m sure when they’re not playing, the team will find something fun to do in one of England’s top vacation cities.
