Unai Emery continues to prove that he is a modern coach. He has brought in new tactics and ideas and has even incorporated social media. It would have been comical to see Arsene Wenger communicating with fans via Twitter. For Emery it’s no big deal.

He’s now gone one step further. Yesterday, Emery announced the launch of his own personal website using Instagram and Twitter.

On the site’s welcome page Emery writes,

Welcome to all football fans, whoever you support. I’m a firm believer in the fact that communication between people is an enriching experience. It’s a pleasure for me to get to know you better and let you know more about me through this website.

It’s a pretty impressive looking website with a number of similarities to the official Arsenal team site.

There are sections highlighting every stop along Emery’s managerial career. There are even photos from the Spaniard’s early playing days. The site is so complete that there is a link that takes you back to the town where Emery was born, Hondarribia. (In case anyone is interested in seeing photos of the manager as a small child.)

The most interesting part of the website is a section entitled, my philosophy. In it he outlines what he calls “three key pillars”. Each of these ideas even comes with its own hashtag. They are:

  • Winning Mentality - #TheArsenalWay
  • Hard Work and Dedication - #Forward
  • The Team Comes First - #BeTogether

Fans familiar with Arsenal’s famous motto Victoria Concordia Crescit will appreciate what Emery has to say under pillar three, The Team Comes First.

As Alfredo di Stéfano once said, no player is as good as all the players together. “We” should be bigger than “Me”, We Are The Arsenal. That’s how I understand the Arsenal motto “Victoria Concordia Crescit”.

While from the overall corporate/PR look and feel of the site it doesn’t seem like Emery will be doing AMA’s or posting adorable pictures of his cat or whatever, it’s kinda cool to see him putting himself out there like this.
