For now, at least, the game of leapfrog isn’t on the table - joint-fourth Spurs and Liverpool are both four points ahead of Arsenal, so an Arsenal win won’t change Arsenal’s table position, but it will keep them in the fourth-or-better place conversation. A win will also open up a bit of a buffer against Bournemouth, currently three points back.
Going into today, we learned that Danny Welbeck’s injury is every bit as bad as feared - reportedly a broken and displaced ankle, as well as ligament damage. That, plus all of Arsenal’s other injuries, means that the international break couldn’t come at a better time - a win today followed by a couple weeks off would do wonders for a depleted Arsenal squad. Let’s do some wonders.
