UPDATE: So, about the following story:

Rob, for those who don’t know him, is the managing editor of Dirty South Soccer, SBN’s Atlanta United blog. He’s good people and his blog does good work, so I trust them when they say there’s nothing here.

According to Fox Sports Deportes, Arsenal have (UPDATE: have not!) agreed to an £11 million pound fee for attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United.

Tracking down the original rumor from Fox Sports Deportes has proven fruitless. Fox may have pivoted to video so hard that they don’t even have a place to write up their own breaking news stories, but that is another story.

The first appearance of the news appears to be from 90minutes, which published the details on the supposed bid. Whether he lands at Arsenal (UPDATE: He won’t!) or elsewhere, it appears that Amiron is headed to Europe (UPDATE: unclear!), with Atlanta United President Darren Eales quoted as saying “Almirón’s future is already decided, and will go to England in the European winter market.“

Amiron is an exciting talent; he has played primarily through the middle in Atlanta but could also be used on the left wing. Arsenal are short on players that are useful in the wide areas of the pitch and at this price this could be an intriguing move. (UPDATE: But it won’t happen now!)

Almiron’s stats in MLS are really impressive, but it will be interesting to see how that set of stats translates to a move to Europe (UPDATE: there is no move to Europe at this time).
