Arsenal wander westward today in search of three points, over the Second Severn Crossing into Wales. The Second Severn Crossing is a toll bridge, which every time my London-based Arsenal season ticket holder friend crosses it, makes him moan about how Wales is the only nation in the world with an admission charge. In good news, though, that toll will be scrapped after this year!
Thanks for reading this week’s Talkin’ Bridges. Tune in next week for a long discussion about the Columbia River Crossing.
Anyway, yeah - Arsenal go to Wales needing three points to stay in touch with the top five. A win would keep them level with Spurs for now, with Spurs playing host to Manchester United on Wednesday at least. Swansea, however, are in a different boat; their boat is homemade, from scraps of old plywood and salvaged 2x4 boards, and it’s held together with chicken wire and probably some caulk that they found in the back of the garage.
This is not to say they should be taken lightly; no easy games at this level, etc and so on. But it is to say that Arsenal should, in a perfect world, have enough to get a result at the Liberty Stadium, and that a game today will be a pretty great distraction from the ongoing Aubameyang/Giroud Show fun and games from yesterday.
Left unknown by all this fun is whether Giroud will actually play today; I wouldn’t rule it out but I also wouldn’t be at all surprised if he didn’t. How’s that for analysis? Anyway, Danny Welbeck’s the only other serious doubt from the weekend. New guy Henrikh Mkhitaryan may see some action, which causes live bloggers and minute-by-minute recappers no end of consternation I’m sure.
Basically, it’s time to get three points.
It’s also time, if you’ve never read the story, to learn the legacy of Cyril the Swan. It’s a fantastic read.
