Arsenal are set to make the first signing of the Sven Mislintant era, with the club agreeing a deal to sign 20-year old centre back Konstantinos Mavropanos. Mavropanos is a Greek U-21 international, having made his debut for PAS Giannina last season, becoming a fixture in the side this season. According to the Greek U-21 coach, Antonis Nikopolidis, Mavropanos is “very strong” and “very effective in the air.”
Mavropanos was a target of new chief scout, Sven Mislintant, when the scout was at Borussia Dortmund, and it was this connection that enabled the relatively quick signing.
Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, Arsène Wenger confirmed the signing of Mavropanos, who will go out on loan once the signing is completed. Werder Bremen have been linked with taking Mavropanos on loan, but given paucity of his top-level experience, Mavropanos could play in a second division somewhere.
Mavropanos joins Krystian Bielik and Julio Pleguezelo as young centre backs at the club, in addition to those already involved in the first team. Mavropanos should be one of several younger players brought in; check back in August 2019 to see where he is.
