According to The Daily Star (yes, really), Borussia Dortmund’s rising phenom Christian Pulisic is being chased by Arsenal and a host of other top clubs across Europe.
Via The Daily Star:
Borussia Dortmund’s attacking midfielder has built a strong reputation for himself in Germany. The USA international has already established himself as an important member of Dortmund’s team. But that has drawn attention from other clubs. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has targeted Pulisic for some time. The former Dortmund manager is continuing to monitor the 19-year-old’s progress, along with Premier League rivals Spurs. And now according to TransferMarketWeb, Arsenal and Madrid are also showing interest.
Why should you believe this? Well, should Alexis Sanchez leave next summer as is expected, this club will need a young talent to replace him and try to fill the Chilean-sized void in the offense. It’s not a like-for-like replacement but if Pulisic is this good now imagine how good he’ll be in a few years. That, plus shirt sales in the U.S. will make him an attractive prospect for any club looking to establish and grow a foothold in the American soccer market.
Why shouldn’t you believe it? The Daily Star is reporting this via some random transfer site which seems to show no interest in anything but clickbait. There isn’t a grain of salt big enough to pair with this story. Also, it would likely take Daddy Warbucks type of money to pry him away from Dortmund and the competition for his signature.
Ultimately, this rumor would be cool if true, but even if there’s any inkling of it being a reality we’ll likely have to see this club compete with the superpowers for the young American’s signature and given how the likes of PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona can drop nine digits worth of transfer fees, Pulisic might just be out of reach unless he explicitly says he wants to play for the red part of London. It’s something to keep an eye on but perhaps it would be wise not to read too much into this.
