While your attention maybe set elsewhere, a notable deal involving an academy player was agreed upon. Arsenal have announced that youth product Donyell Malen has been acquired by PSV Eindhoven on a permanent deal, as the 18 year old returns to Holland where he began his career at age 8.
Malen signed in 2015 from Ajax, stating a clear and understanding motive for his move to the Emirates. He told Arsenal in a 2015 interview, “When I found out Arsenal were interested in me I felt so proud and excited. Arsenal was a club that had always interested me for two main reasons, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.” Bergkamp coached him at Ajax, so it is no question that facilitated the transfer to Arsenal.
Malen was a standout in the academy, seeing playing time in the Arsenal preseason tour with a handful of other youngsters. I and another writer profiled the Dutch international earlier this summer, who we both stated we wanted to see more of. He loves to dribble and is very versatile in the final third, with skills ranging from passing to finishing. His potential was definitely there, but he wasn’t ready for the first team just yet. I hope his transfer will see him get more play time as this will be one for the future.
Below are a few highlights of time with Arsenal. Best of luck to you moving forward, Donyell.
