Arsenal might actually be up to something today

Is the deal for Thomas Lemar...back on?

We all know how Arsenal has ended up in the spot they’re in today. Rehashing the timeline and details of their summer is a giant waste of words and effort, and I’d rather keep what remains of my liver mostly functional.

With that disclaimer, and with all we were told yesterday about how the club lacks money to pull off “major signings”, the Daily Mail is reporting today that Arsenal has made a £90 million bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. If accepted, Lemar would become the British transfer record.

Frankly, I have no idea what to believe at this point. The BBC’s David Ornstein went on both Twitter and the radio yesterday to discuss how Arsenal lacks money to do the deals fans have been promised before the transfer window closes today. And now...this? Today?

As I write this, take this bit of news with the tiniest of grains of salt. Keep monitoring the movement of news and how this particular story turns and twists. There’s still little to be optimistic about - after all, making a bid and seeing the deal get completed are two extraordinary different things - but today’s deadline day certainly got a little more interesting.
