It’s now officially, official. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed for Liverpool. The Ox leaves Arsenal looking to get more playing time in midfield. He had one year left on his contract with the Gunners.

The transfer fee is for around £40 million and is the highest transfer fee that Arsenal have ever received.

Arsenal allegedly offered Oxlade-Chamberlain up to £180,000 a week in a new contact, but it was turned down. He is reportedly going to make £120,000 a week with Liverpool.

The Ox was converted to play as a RWB in Arsenal’s new three at the back system, but he never fully fit the posistion as he struggled with the defensive duties. Arsene Wenger didn’t trust him to play in the center of the park either, leaving him without a clear posistion to play at Arsenal. But let’s not kid ourselves, Wenger would have kept him at RWB.

Oxlade-Chamberlain sent out this message on Twitter this morning.

It’s unlikely that Arsenal will sign any sort of replacement. The transfer deadline is at 11 pm British Time, 6 pm EST, and 3 pm PST.
