We talked earlier in the week about how, if a suitable offer came across the transom for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsenal should take it. Ox reportedly turned down a contract worth £180,000/week, and also, despite playing as wing-back in The New Back Three, reportedly wants to play in midfield.
Well, John Cross is reporting today that both Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in Ox, with Chelsea seemingly being Ox’s preferred destination. They haven’t made a formal offer, but it’s believed that one may be forthcoming, in the neighborhood of £35 million. As Aidan said in his piece linked above, if that number proves to be true, it would be very, very hard to justify not selling him. he’s a decent player but he’s inconsistent, and he’s probably old enough now that his inconsistencies are his skillset, whether we want them to be or not.
The transfer deadline is Thursday at 3PM Pacific/6PM Eastern/11PM British Time.
