Olivier Giroud’s future at Arsenal has recently become a bit hazy, as the club just broke its transfer fee to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette, who will presumably slot right into the first choice starting XI. Now, a report from The Telegraph indicates that Giroud may be heading to Olympique de Marseille back in France.
“Marseille believe they are in pole position to sign France striker Olivier Giroud from Arsenal . . . [they] are increasingly confident of getting a deal worth around €28 million (£24.7m), plus add-ons, over the line,” the report says. However, the story does not give any indication of what sources this information is coming from, so treat this with skepticism for now.
That said, it’s not hard to believe that Giroud might leave for a club where he could have more guaranteed playing time.
And while he still could play a role for Arsenal off the bench, if Marseille really is going to pay over £20 million pounds for a striker who’s almost 31, the club should probably take that money and run. Though I’m sure I speak for all fans when I say that I’d miss his stunningly beautiful face.
