Arsenal have officially announced Alexandre Lacazette as their second signing of the summer at a fee that can rise to £52 million, which easily makes him the club’s most expensive signing ever.
Lacazette is also rumored to become the highest-paid player at Arsenal - capturing a £200,000 per week package - which will undoubtedly be used for future contract negotiations for Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez.
With Lacazette’s signing, Arsenal has (for the time being) increased the attacking options and overall setup at Arsene Wenger’s disposal. The former Lyon forward bagged an eye-watering 36 goals for the French side last season, which will no doubt be welcomed at a club that’s needing to improve on their finishing if they are to score the amount of goals required for a Premier League title contender.
It’s been widely-mentioned that Wenger has £100 million to spend this summer, so without any departures one should expect more activity from the club before the transfer window shuts. And based on all the rumblings surrounding players such as Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and (guh) Hector Bellerin, expect a lot more activity in the days and weeks to come.
Also of note: the club is using #LacaNewSigning on their social about this, which is a slice of pure hashtag gold.
