After already having a £31 million bid rejected, Arsenal is ready to up their offer to Monaco for midfielder Thomas Lemar. This is according to Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph.
Per Wilson, Arsenal is set to offer £45 million for Lemar, which would make him one of our biggest transfers ever, although that has as much to do with the recent explosion in transfer fees as anything else.
Anyways, it’s clear that Arsène Wenger rates Lemar highly, and for good reason, as the Frenchman is only 21-years-old and notched 12 goals and 14 assists for the Ligue 1 champions last season.
Lemar, who plays as a left winger for Monaco, has been frequently mentioned as a potential replacement for Alexis Sánchez, who still has not signed a new contract and whose position with the club remains up in the air. And as far as fallback options go, Lemar seems like a good one, talented but young enough that he has room to improve.
Of course, we could try to hang on to Alexis and sign Lemar anyway. I’m not entirely sure where he would play if we kept Alexis, but there are certainly worse problems for Wenger to have to try and figure out.
