Arsenal open talks with Alexandre Lacazette

A nice bit of non-Mbappe news.

Arsenal aren’t waiting around for a Kylian Mbappe decision before exploring other moves. Reports today declare that the Gunners have opened talks with Lyon’s wantaway striker Alexandre Lacazette, a player that Arsenal, or at least its fans, have been interested in signing for a couple seasons now.

Lacazette was hoping for a move to Atletico Madrid, but the Spanish club is under a transfer ban right now. With that move off the table, Arsenal felt it was a good time to go in and say “hey what about us?”, to the tune of some €60 millionish, which is the price tag glued to Lacazette’s front windshield.

It’s early days yet, so the whole fake-indignance-at-a-low-offer dance hasn’t really started yet, but the Big Name Parade continues in Arsenal’s summer, and the summer hasn’t even started in earnest yet. Marathon not a sprint, fool me once shame on me etc, but I like the way this summer is starting out.
