It’s no secret that striker is a position that has been targeted as an area of improvement for Arsenal. Not just this season but as a conversation topic for what has now been a couple of years. Among chatter of a potential world record bid for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe, a new report surfaced out of France today that a a bid for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has either been offered or will materialize in the coming days.

This isn’t exactly a shocker as Lacazette has been linked to Arsenal for what seems like ages. However, it is news as the club has been more focused on Mbappe if the press is to be believed (as always, with a huge grain of salt). While Lacazette isn’t the flashiest of names like Mbappe or even Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku, he is a proven scorer for a top-5 league and would certainly be a welcomed addition to this club’s stable of attackers, especially considering that he’d arrive at a much more reasonable price than the aforementioned players.
Alexandre Lacazette has scored 20+ league goals in each of the last three seasons:

This may all be smoke and clickbait, but as the L’Equipe report states, Lyon has already sounded out Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz as a replacement for Lacazette and reports out of Madrid placed Diaz at Lyon a couple days ago so it’s now multiple sources running the story. Atletico Madrid have been seen as the future landing spot for Lacazette but as they’re still under a six month transfer ban, it could very well be Arsenal that’s sporting a new #9 at season’s start.
Stay tuned as this next week could be a big one.
