According to a report in the Telegraph, Bayern Munich are willing to offer £55m for Alexis Sánchez, becoming the latest club to register interest in 28-year old Chilean. Alexis, who has attracted interest from Juventus, PSG and Chelsea, has just one year left on his contract, with contract talks having stalled weeks ago. In recent weeks, Arsene Wenger has said that the agent was the issue, and stated a belief in public that Alexis would stay, but the likelihood of Alexis staying has lessened as he’s been dropped out of the side, had disputes with fellow players, and as Arsenal’s form has floundered.
If the reported interest from Bayern Munich is true, it would be one of the better outcomes. Competition for his transfer would allow Arsenal to get a better price, and not going to a fellow Premier League club is the minimum of requirements if Alexis goes.
Furthermore, at £55m, Arsenal would be able to reinvest the money. With Alexis likely to go, Arsenal likely to finish outside of the Champions League places, and question marks over other aspects of the side, next season looks likely to be a rebuilding year for the club.
While there are few established quality players on the market, £55m could be well spent on buying good, young attacking players, which Arsenal, aside from Alex Iwobi, do not have.
