Mesut Özil has decided to go in a different direction with his ongoing saga of contract renewal with Arsenal. According to Charles Watts, chief negotiator Dick Law, is out. Josh Kroenke, son of Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, is in.

Dick Law has handled the majority of transfer and contract renewals since replacing David Dein for Arsenal. Now with his biggest renewal to date, the German’s people have said they will continue talks, but not with him.
Özil has reached out to his friend, Kroenke to continue the negotiations. While this is a change from the status quo, I think this points all signs to Mesut wanting to stay in London for while longer. Otherwise, he would cut off talks completely. Rumors of interest from Turkey and China have bounced around over the past few months, only to be denied by Özil every time.
Özil’s time at Arsenal has seen his pros and cons, but there is no denying on his day, the five time DFB player of the year, is in a class of his own. The promise of the move from Highbury to the Emirates was built on us buying world class players and retaining them, with big money purchases of Özil, Cech, Sanchez, and Xhaka in the previous years, renewing contracts to keep that promise is vital.
