Arsenal are preparing to re-enter talks with Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez with offers that will make the two the highest paid players in the club’s history. Both Özil and Alexis have been offered £250,000 per week, and will now be offered £280,000 a week. Whether the two sign is another question; both were affected by the demoralizing exit to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and while both Alexis and Özil regained form, especially after Arsenal’s switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation, doubts remain.
Alexis has attracted interest from a host of European clubs, along with Manchester City and Chelsea. Özil has attracted less interest, and has long thought to be the easier player to re-sign. There is thought at the club that Alexis may be willing to sign a two-year extension to 2020, which would allow him to leave the club while still at a reasonable age.
Arsenal retain interest in Thomas Lemar, and should announce the signing of Sead Kolasinac imminently. David Ospina, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy, Joel Campbell and Jack Wilshere are all thought to be exiting the club this summer, while Wojciech Szczesny and Calum Chambers will return from successful loan spells.
