Because I can’t be bothered to focus on Arsenal’s actual gameplay right now (SPOILER ALERT: it’s bad), let’s turn our attention to a potential signing, shall we? News emerged today that Arsenal are taking a look at Malaga’s Pablo Fornals, a 21 year old midfielder. What I don’t know, though, is how serious this “look” actually is.
For one, Marca generally don’t wander too much further afield than Madrid, so it remains to be seen how much knowledge they actually have about a kid from (relatively) far-flung Malaga or how his club wants to do business. For another, as the story notes, the big question mark hanging over any transfer rumor at this point in time is that of the future of Arsene Wenger. If he goes, does this transfer go away?
For yet another: does Arsenal need a 21 year old playmaking midfielder? They do if one of Özil or Sanchez goes, I suppose, and just about the Wengeriest move ever would be to replace one of the top footballers in the world with a 21 year old kid, but other than that, I’m not sure what Fornals brings to Arsenal that Arsenal don’t already have.
That said, it’s still interesting to talk about new players, almost more so than it is the current ones, no?
