Arsenal play Bayern Munich tomorrow in the Champions League at 19:45 in jolly old London (that’s 2:45 PM on the east coast of the States). Considering the Gunners are down 5-1 heading into this second leg, Mesut Özil is definitely not playing, and the fact that it’s broadcast on Fox Sports in the US, you might as well do something else with your time. Here’s some suggestions:
1. Read a book!
It is always good to expand your horizons through literature. I’ve been on a John le Carré kick lately. His books are good! If you’re unfamiliar, he’s actually a British guy. I know, confusing.
You could read Ralph Ellison’s classic Invisible Man. (Not to be confused with H.G. Wells’/Zeets joke The Invisible Man.) He’s from my home state!
If you prefer a recent book, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is a fanstastic story of hope in the middle of an impossible time of cruelty and death which made me weep in a manner that would make Claire Danes jealous. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt is great too but it’s super long. Guess you could start it tomorrow afternoon though.
2. Watch a movie!
If reading isn’t your thing, catch a matinee. Get Out is really good! I saw it last night. John Wick 2 is the belle of the TSF Slack ball. Logan is apparently the best superhero movie in a long time. Not to mention all of the 2016 Oscar nominees that are still out in theaters!
3. Play outdoors!
If climate change is going to slowly destroy the planet, you might as well take advantage of this balmy “winter.” Take a walk. Play in the park. Sit on a patio and have a drink. I promise it will be way more fun than watching this match.
4. Work
If you’re in the US, odds are, you’ll be working tomorrow during the match. I love making money for my bosses.
5. There are other things on TV.
Let’s Make a Deal is on CBS. Wayne Brady is back, folks! The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills re-runs on Bravo if your thing is insufferable people on “reality” TV. Food Network is showing Chopped, that’s always fun. You could catch up on The Americans on Amazon Prime in advance of the season premiere tomorrow night! Don’t even get me started on all the shows you could watch on Netflix or Hulu!
Just please, whatever you do, don’t watch Arsenal. Promise me that. Take care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
