With the small matter of Bayern Munich looming on Feb 15, UEFA’s squad submission deadline for the knockout phase of the Champions League was yesterday, and Arsenal, being the good citizens that they are, duly faxed over a list. Or maybe they sent it by messenger. I don’t know how business works.
Anyway, the squad contains few surprises, but does contain some good news - it includes Per Mertesacker, on his way back from injury and back in full training as of last week. It also includes Danny Welbeck, he of the two goal performance against Southampton. Both were excluded from the group stage squad list due to injury, but both hope to play at least some part going forward.
Missing from the squad is one Carl Jenkinson, he of the attempted move to Crystal Palace; the move, of course, fell through, so he remains an Arsenal player for now but, despite playing in the group stages, will play no part - in the CL and probably at Arsenal - from here on in this season.
