Shkodran Mustafi out for 4-6 weeks

Mustafi is out; Koscielny is a doubt, but Welbeck and Özil should be back.

Shkodran Mustafi will be out for four to six weeks following the injury he sustained playing for Germany during the international week. With Laurent Koscielny suffering from his chronic Achilles issue and Sead Kolasinac needing a check on a hip problem, Arsenal could be poached at the back. Mustafi, Wenger said, was the player he expected to lose the least, because Germany had already qualified, and in this sense, Wenger has egg on his face.

Arsenal will have more options upfront: Danny Welbeck has returned and is available, as is Mesut Özil. There is uncertainty over Alexis, given that he didn’t return until last night, and because of any possible psychological ramifications over Chile’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

Laurent Koscielny has a final test and was in training, but there could be a first league start of the season for either Per Mertesacker or Calum Chambers, who has also been out with injury.
