Arsenal are set to officially conclude the £40,000 signing of 7th division Hednesford Town left back Cohen Bramall, and Arsene Wenger has spoken about the 20-year old this week. Bramall, who will sign a two-year contract, spent two days on trial at Arsenal, after he was spotted by Arsenal scout and former Reading manager Brian McDermott.
Bramall impressed while on trial, so much so that Wenger compared some aspects of his game to Ashley Cole, perhaps the finest left back in the club’s history:
He’s an exceptional physical talent. I don’t think he’s ready, today, to play in Premier League but he has similarities to a young Ashley Cole.
Bramall will not play for the first team this season, with the player expected to compete for a spot in the U-23 side. The goal for Bramall, according to the player himself, is to get himself in the right physical shape to compete for a spot in Arsenal’s first team. While the signing is a punt, it doesn’t seem all too different to when Arsenal signed American Daniel Karbassiyoon, who converted from striker to left back, where he made his Arsenal debut.
