It’s the fourth round of the FA Cup tomorrow, when Arsenal pile into the team jalopy and head down the coast to Southampton to take on Claude Puel’s Saints, who are currently 11th in the league, 20 points behind Arsenal. That, of course, doesn’t matter so much tomorrow, except in that it may influence Puel’s squad selection, as Saints play Swansea in three days’ time. If Puel decides a European push may be more important than advancement, Saints may punt this game a bit.
When:
Saturday, January 28, 2017
9.30AM PT/12.30PM ET/5.30PM BT
Where:
St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Importance:
Advancement to the next round. Arsenal also have a game in three days, against Watford, so for both teams, the question “how seriously do you take the FA Cup” will loom large over squad selection. Arsene Wenger usually starts a pretty regular-heavy team in these games, but I would expect a couple youngsters to get some time as well.
Player News:
Theo Walcott is back in contention for a place after a calf injury. Arsene Wenger might also rest Alexis Sanchez, but that’s very much unconfirmed.
Probable starters:
Excellent question! Expect Cech to give way to David Ospina, probably, or even Martinez; Sanchez might sit, Welbeck might start. Hard to tell in these games.
