For the third time this season and the second time in cup competitions, Arsenal will face Southampton. The fourth round match will take place at St. Mary’s Stadium on January 28th. Earlier today, Southampton won 1-0 at home against Norwich City. Prior to today’s home match, Southampton had only won game in six in all competitions. The first match in the Premier League ended in a 2-1 victory for Arsenal at the Emirates. The second match went to Southampton in a 2-0 victory in the EFL Cup. This will be the first trip to Southampton for Arsenal this season with an away match scheduled for February 25th.
A victory against Southampton would end a bad run of form against Southampton in the FA Cup. Arsenal have lost five consecutive FA Cup matches against Southampton, including their last two matches in cup competitions. If the Gunners are victorious in the fourth round against Southampton, they they would advance to the fifth round proper which is played on February 18th. The fifth round is composed of the sixteen winners from the fourth round and is the second to last round before the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
