Our boy Mesut Özil just picked up a huge honor, as he was named the Germany Player of the Year. This award comes courtesy of a fan vote which Özil totally ran away with, picking up 54.5% of the votes.
Özil has been winning this award at a Meryl Streep-like rate as of late. This is the second year in a row he has won it, and his fifth time in the past six(!) years winning it.
Özil is, of course, a prodigious talent, but one whose style of play can sometimes be easy to overlook, which lends well to some absolutely fire takes. So it’s nice that he is able to get this bit of recognition for being the remarkable player he is.
In other Özil news, the club is actively trying to get the playmaker to sign a new contract. He is reportedly holding out to see whether or not Wenger will stay on as Arsenal manager. Hopefully something gets worked out soon, as it would be a big disappointment to lose the five-time German Player of the Year.
