With the depth at left-back growing increasingly questionable, a report in the Metro hints that Arsenal may be in the market for a replacement. Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs are the primary options at the position but pundits suspect that Gibbs may soon move on due to his scarce playing time. If Gibbs should move on the depth behind Nacho would be...minimal.
In a report published by the Italian soccer blog tuttormercatoweb, Arsenal may pursue Sead Kolašinac––a Bosnian international who currently plays for Schalke 04. He recently sustained a knee injury and was out for six months but extended his contract with the club until June 2017. Unfortunately, this transfer rumor is scarce in both substance and reliability. Sead has performed well for Schalke during his four years at the senior level but there is little evidence to suggest that Arsenal actually has a horse in this race. The piece in the Metro notes that Liverpool is also interested, although they tend to have interest in a lot of players. Further research reveals that Juventus have also been pursuing him, with some publications even suggesting that the club has been in contact with him to discuss terms for a deal.
A young, talented player like Kolašinac would certainly be a welcomed addition to the stable of defensive players at Arsene Wenger’s disposal. However, the transfer news and rumors published by tuttormercatoweb have been historically unreliable. Further confirmation will be needed to determine if Arsenal are actually interested in signing Kolašinac this summer.
