Jack Wilshere made his debut for AFC Bournemouth Saturday in their 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. Wilshere replaced Jordan Ibe in the 63rd minute and immediately slotted into the No. 10 role. He immediately made an impact by creating a very good opportunity for Junior Stanislas, but the winger’s shot was well saved by Ben Foster. In the 74th minute, Bournemouth made a double substitution and Wilshere moved more to the right side of midfield.

After Bournemouth scored in the 79th minute, Wilshere was largely out of the match as WBA pressed for an equalizer. He did press well and kept the ball when he did see it in the final minutes. Overall, he completed 18 of 20 passes. One of the two misses was attempting to squeeze a throughball in at the edge of the box. The other was a well-hit, right to left crossfield pass that the left back was not expecting. Had the left back not stopped jogging, it would have been comfortably collected in space.

Overall, it was a solid start to Jack’s stint at Bournemouth. He clearly gives them something they do not have in their midfield. It will be interesting to see how he handles being less involved in the match than he is with a ball-dominant Arsenal side. At least in this instance, he played smartly and didn’t make any rash challenges, despite being mostly out of the match for the final 10 minutes.

Calum Chambers was an unused substitute for Middlesborough in their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.

Wojciech Szczesny started for Roma in their thrilling 3-2 victory over Sampdoria. The Pole had 5 saves on the day.

Joel Campbell scored a fine headed goal in the 52nd minute, as Sporting Lisbon cruised to a 3-0 win over Moreirense.

Jon Toral did not make the bench for the second straight match for Granada. Soccer hipster favorite Paco Jémez’s side lost 2-1 to 10-man Eibar.

Takuma Asano made his debut for Stuttgart in their 2-1 loss to Heidenheimer SB. The Japanese striker was an 81st minute substitute and set up a chance that was not converted.

Stefan O’Connor was an unused substitute in MVV Maastricht’s 1-1 draw with FC Eindhoven.

Julio Pleguezuelo was an unused substitute in Mallorca’s 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano.

Daniel Crowley was an unused substitute in Oxford United’s 2-0 win over Swindon Town.
