Arsenal announce signing of Lucas Pèrez

The Spaniard should help with attacking depth, and could provide even more.

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Spanish striker Lucas Pérez from Deportivo de la Coruña. It is, as ever, the classic undisclosed fee/long-term contract combo, so we don’t technically know how much we’re paying for the dude, but we do know that Lucas’ contract had a €20 million (£17.1 million) release clause, so it’s safe to assume that’s what we’ve paid. And the rumored wage on offer was around £70,000-a-week, so let’s go with that as well.

Lucas has bounced around a bit – stints at Atlético Madrid and Rayo Vallecano’s reserve teams, Rayo’s first team, Karpaty Lviv, Dynamo Kyiv, PAOK, and finally Deportivo – and he really came into his own last season, scoring 17 goals in 36 league appearances. He also has one goal in his only appearance so far this season, a penalty to beat Eibar.

So welcome to Arsenal, Lucas. We’ll do our best not to confuse you with any of the other Lucases.
